Frank first appeared in the pre-Diesel band that was called The
Hammer with Mark Boon and Rob Vunderink. Before that he played in
Boll Weevil and De Jan Sex Four. Between the Hammer (1974-1975) and
the beginning of Diesel he played in symphonic band Sfinx with
ex-Hammer drummer Harm Bieger. He was the last member to join the
Diesel ranks in 1979. Frank is one of the four original Diesel
members and plays on the first four singles and the album "Watts in a
tank". Together with Mark Boon he left Diesel in 1980 to join Meike
Touw's Tutti Frutti. Frank now claims he hated playing "Down in the
silvermine" three times a night and didn't want to be in a
"sing-a-long" band. However, when Mark rejoined Diesel in 1981 after
"Sausalito Summernight" started taking off internationally, Frank
wasn't asked back into the fold and Frank then regretted his
departure a year earlier as he missed out on a chance to tour North
America. From 1981 till 1983 he played in the Urban Heroes and then
played on the President's first album (with Pim Koopman and Bas
Krumperman). He played on the only tour the President ever did and in
1984 joined the Frog, followed by the Margiet Eshuys Band, who also
had AndrÈ Versluys and Mark Boon in their ranks at some point.
After that he quit the music business for some years, only to
reappear in Kadanz between 1991 and 1994. In December 1998 he showed
up at a studio-session with Mark Boon, playing bass on a country CD
by lady-singer Jony de Boer that was produced by Pim Koopman. That is
THREE ORIGINAL DIESEL MEMBERS on one session. You can view a shot of
Frank and the band on the "Going back to China" sleeve here.
