Singer/guitarist Jan Loomans hails from the city of Breda where
he was born on December 4, 1951. Jan didn't start making music until
at a later age. He was already in his twenties when he joined NN
& the Flightcases. Before he joined Diesel in spring of 1984 he
played with his brother in the Loomans Brothers. Jan was asked to
join Diesel as manager Dido Smit thought Jan could bring a certain
charm and personality to the band that had previously lacked. Jan
wrote many songs for the Diesel repertoire like "Sunny City",
"Killing Beast" and "Workin' man". The latter made it unto the B-side
of "Sound of the 60's". A spectacular facet of Jan's stage act was
his fire-spitting that he used to during André's bass-solo in
"Sausalito Summernight". At a concert in De Vrije Vloer in Utrecht
(at the time hometown of Ronald and Henk), Jan spilt some oil on his
T-shirt while doing the act. As a result he caught fire, but the
damage was limited by quick distinguishing by manager Dido Smit and
Jan's sometime wife. After the first demise of DIESEL in the summer
of 1985 Jan formed his own band Street Level. He then joined the
"unplugged" craze with Two Man Acoustical Jam and made a solo-CD as
The Low Man. He now plays with his own rock band as Joy & Pain.
Jan has had his own window-cleaning business for years, but nowadays
he's no longer on the ladder, sticking to the administrative side of
the business. Poor Jan, doesn't he miss the sights he used to see? As
a hobby Jan started renting his sound equipment to bands and bars,
but this "hobby" has now grown into a fullblown business of its own.
You can find his homepage here.
And yes, that guitarman in the logo at the bottom of the page is
Jan....
Still rocking & renting after all these years....
